UC Foundation Exceeds Expectations with Second Most Successful Fundraising Year Ever

$170M supports university priorities, investment in people

CINCINNATI – July 23, 2014 – The University of Cincinnati (UC) Foundation surpassed its fundraising goal of $125 million, raising in excess of $170 million in private support for the university.

“This has been one of the most successful fundraising years in UC’s history, and I am thankful for our generous donors and their passion for UC,” said UC President, Santa J. Ono. “These donations are an invaluable resource in funding key priorities for our university as we approach its third century.”

A culmination of master plans and innovative ideas from across the university, Creating Our Third Century is an organizational roadmap for UC that focuses on a sustained investment in people. The plan, unveiled in April 2014, reaffirms the university’s mission of teaching, research and community engagement and provides a sharpened focus of institutional priorities for the next 15 years. These priorities will guide the foundation’s future fundraising efforts as well.

“It is clear that our donors are passionate about the university, and more importantly about the people whose lives they change when they invest in UC,” said UC Foundation President, Rod Grabowski. “The fundraising success achieved this year is just the beginning of our efforts to positively affect the lives of students and this community for years to come.”

During fiscal year 2014, which began July 1, 2013 and ended June 30, 2014, the UC Foundation raised $170,801,746 for UC. The donors have designated gifts as follows: $8.5 million to support student scholarships and fellowships; $6.5 million in endowments to fund chairs and professorships; and more than $88 million to enhance educational programs. The remainder will fund facility improvements such as Nippert Stadium renovations, programmatic support and research that will further impact students, faculty and the community.
