Want to get involved to help improve the graduate experience?
There are multiple ways to get involved with the Graduate Student Government
Become a GSA Officer
The GSG is the governing body of all academic-based Graduate Student Associations (GSA) at UC. Each college/department has at least one designated GSA registered with the GSG. All graduate students in UC are automatically members of their corresponding GSAs depending on their area of study. As a GSA officer, you serve as the direct contact between the committee and the students in your GSA. Your job is to bring forth any issues graduate students may be having and take news of pertinent events and legislation that affect your fellow students. If your college/department does not have a GSA you can also petition to become a GSA.
Become a Committee Representative
There are a various committees university-wide that require graduate student input. Graduate students serve as representatives of the GSG and discuss and vote on pertinent University issues through these committees. As a committee member, you are expected to devote a certain number of hours towards attending these meetings and submit a report to the GSG Officers at the end of the year. Students may receive a monetary benefit for serving on these committees.
Become a GSG Officer
The GSG has 4 officers elected by the GSA. The officers are a President, a Vice-President, a Treasurer and a Campus Ambassador elected by the GSA. Graduate students must be registered in an approved / official graduate program and be in good academic standing can apply for a term of one (1) year, commencing with beginning of summer semester through the end of the spring semester. Officers are paid over a twelve (12) month period that includes summer duties. Elections for the GSG Executive Board are held in the month of March every year.
For more information, go through the GSG Constitution listed here.
Be a voice!
Whether you are officially involved with the GSG or not, it is important that you are a voice for yourself and fellow graduate students. The GSG is here to serve and support graduate students in any capacity it can. Your first point of contact for GSG is your GSA Representative who can share any issues or concerns with the Executive Board. However, you are always welcome to contact any Officer directly with concerns or suggestions.
GSG is here to serve the students and it is most effective if all students know about its presence. Help us spread awareness about GSG and make every graduate student experience a positive and successful while at the University of Cincinnati
