The University Honors Program proudly presents Dr. George Suckarieh with our Distinguished Service Award, in recognition of his 35 years of service and unwavering support of honors students and honors education at UC.

Dr. Suckarieh is a Professor of Construction Management in UC’s College of Engineering and Applied Science (CEAS). He has been involved with the evolution of the University Honors Program since he first came to UC. From 2003-2009, Dr. Suckarieh coordinated the UC College of Applied Science Honors Program, for which he established a scholarship fund. During this time, he taught many interdisciplinary honors seminars and also coordinated many honors lunches and special programs with guest speakers for the students.

Dr. Suckarieh is such a strong supporter of the University Honors Program that he has continued to remain involved after his retirement in 2013! Over the past year, Dr. Suckarieh has led a revitalization of honors within CEAS, including overseeing the CEAS Honors Committee.

He is passionate about teaching and motivating students. In 2011, Dr. Suckarieh was awarded UC’s Distinguished Teaching Professor Award. He was also named a member of UC’s Academy of Fellows for Teaching and Learning and a CEAS Master Educator in 2011.

Dr. Suckarieh’s commitment comes across in this statement from him, about our students:

“I believe they are catalysts for excellence at UC, in the communities where they serve and in the workplace. They make every member of UC community very proud of being part of UC and are the winning team that never loses.”

When Dr. Suckarieh won the UC Distinguished Teaching Professor Award, one colleague offered this summation of his career:

“He has been a superb teacher to thousands of students, incorporating a special mix of knowledge, innovation and enthusiasm. He has left an imprint on the university to which all should aspire.”

We are exceptionally grateful for this support and for his long-standing commitment to honors education at UC! Thank you, Dr. George Suckarieh!
