University Honors Program Welcome Retreat
The University Honors Program's Welcome Retreat is a tradition that has been going strong for over a decade. Every year, incoming first-year students participate in this overnight experience to form relationships with peers, learn about UC, and have fun! Additionally, you'll have the opportunity to participate in a pre-retreat social activity the evening of Aug. 20th. The retreat is led by upper-class UHP students who look forward to sharing their experiences with the incoming class. The retreat takes place just prior to the start of fall semester classes at YMCA Camp Kern in Oregonia, OH. Capacity is limited and is met on a first-come, first-served basis. All retreat participants are also eligible to move-in to campus housing early if they choose.
Camp Kern's Adventure Challenge
Students attending the UHP Welcome Retreat will be invited to participate in Camp Kern's Adventure Challenge. If you plan to participate, please prepare and dress appropriately for outdoor activities. Find more information here:
The cost to attend the retreat is $50, but do not send us cash or check. This cost will be added to your student bill once your completed registration and waiver forms have been received. You will pay for the retreat when you pay the rest of your fall semester student bill.
Note on Cancellations:
Cancellations received on or after Friday, August 3, 2018 cannot be refunded.
Students participating in the following programs may not be able to participate in the Welcome Retreat:
- UC Bearcat Band's camp
- CCM Auditions and Programming (all majors except E-Media)
- International Student Check-in & Orientation

Move Into Your Residence Hall Before Retreat
Students attending the retreat who have an on-campus residence hall assignment can move into their room beginning on Monday, August 20th if they choose. Students will be required to pay a fixed early move-in fee of $30 payable to Housing and Food Services. The charge will be added to your student bill by Housing and Food Services prior to arrival.
But Wait Until Early July...
Housing and Food Services will start receiving applications for early arrival to residence hall space in early July. At that time, we will host a direct link here and email all confirmed registrants to apply for that early arrival if living in on-campus housing.
Students moving into University Park Apartments or other affiliated university housing should contact the management office for personal arrangements.
Meal plans generally do not begin until the first day when the residence halls officially open. So while students participating in the retreat have an opportunity to move in early, dining options are limited or available on a cash or credit card basis.
