Attend a Study Abroad Information Session
If you don't know where to start, our information sessions give you the best view of what study abroad looks like at UC. Check the Information Session webpage for information on where and when these sessions are held.
Search Available Programs
We keep an up-to-date database of all our currently available study abroad programs online. Take a look and start narrowing down your options.
If you have a specific location in mind and don't see a program headed there, you may work with an external provider to find your perfect program. Just know that we do have some restrictions on where you can travel.
Research Costs and Funding
Each program listed in our online database should have an estimated program cost. Costs vary by program and location, so do your research! Also ensure that you understand how each type of program is billed to you, and how your financial aid will apply to your selected program.
In addition, there are many study abroad scholarships available to help offset your costs. Our office alone gives out over $800,000 in scholarships! Take a look at our scholarships page to see what opportunities match with you.
Talk to Your Advisors
Make sure that study abroad fits your academic goals! Talk to your academic advisor and one of our study abroad advisors to ensure that your preferred options work with your schedule and outlined curriculum.
Apply for a Passport / Visa
If you don't have a passport, you'll need one to study abroad! Get started on your application process early. If you already have a passport, make sure it is valid at least 6 months past your travel dates, and renew your passport early if it is not.
Some countries also require a visa to enter. Look up the visa requirements for your chosen country and start the process once you have confirmed participation in your program.
Complete Your Application
Use our online system to apply for your chosen program. Follow the instructions provided throughout the application process.
Note: Some programs may require additional external applications.
Wait for Acceptance
You will receive an email notification once you have been accepted to a program. Check your email often to make sure you don't miss it!
Confirm Your Commitment
Once you've been accepted to a program, confirm your commitment to the program. Congratulations--you've been accepted to study abroad!
Register for Your Course
If you go on a faculty-led course, you'll apply through UC International and sign up for your course in Catalyst once approved.
We have outlined the process for exchange and external provider programs on our Academic Planning page.
Complete Post-Decision Documents
Once you've confirmed your acceptance into a study abroad program, you'll have a few more documents to upload to our online system. Login and provide the requested documentation.
Attend Pre-Departure Orientation
We require all students to attend a pre-departure orientation. Whether you're an experience traveler or this is your first time out of the country, we want to ensure that you have the basics down before you leave.
