UC journalism celebrates 2025 Hall of Fame inductees

UC’s Department of Journalism came together in Charles P. Taft Research Center last month to honor the 2025 hall of fame and young alumni award recipients. This year, the ceremony honored four hall of fame and five young alumni inductees. Among the hall of fame award winners were David Altman (1968, 1974), Glenn Gamboa (1989), Tony Cook (2003), and Kristy Conlin (2009). The Young Alumni recognized included Carly Hagedon (2011), Eamon Queeney (2011), Keith BieryGolick (2013), Bethany Cianciolo (2013), and Jason Hoffman (2013).

Students are spending the summer researching cures

Siobain Knox and Eric Kniffen are biology students who plan to work in the medical field to help improve and possibly save lives. They are both getting hands-on experience this summer through two separate, highly competitive research fellowships with area hospitals.

Poiesis Quartet to compete at Banff International String Quartet Competition

CCM graduate student ensemble the Poiesis Quartet is the only quartet in the USA to compete in the 2025 Banff International String Quartet Competition (BISQC). At CCM, the Poiesis Quartet studies chamber music with the Ariel Quartet. Members are AD student Sarah Ying Ma, violin; AD student Max Ball, violin; AD student Jasper de Boor; and AD student Drew Dansby, cello.

Engineer harnesses magnetism to drive alternative energy source

Associate Professor of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Cincinnati Sarah Watzman is utilizing energy conversion principles to gain fundamental information about a recently discovered class of materials. She received the prestigious National Science Foundation (NSF) CAREER Award to fund this project for the next several years. Since earning her PhD from The Ohio State University, she has been at UC's College of Engineering and Applied Science.

The topic is one that Elizabeth Lanphier, PhD, an assistant professor in the UC Department of Pediatrics, tackles in an opinion piece with The Hastings Center. Lanphier is also a clinical ethicist at Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center.
