UC ingot   University Dining Services will be temporarily closing one Tangeman University Center restaurant and permanently replacing two food court locations this summer. When classes resume in the fall, Mick & Mack’s Contemporary Café will be refreshed and better equipped to handle the ever-growing popularity of its buffets, monthly wine tastings and gourmet lunches and dinners. The food court will welcome two additional restaurants, Taco Bell and Papa John’s, finishing the process we began in 2009 to bring the national brand variety that students, faculty and staff demand of a vital campus.

Mick & Mack’s last table service of the season will be for lunch on Friday, June 10, closing at 2 p.m., and reopening in September. The renovated restaurant will be warmer and more comfortable, with a fireplace, banquettes, and inviting textures and colors. During the renovation, AV services and acoustic enhancements will be installed, improving the use of Mick & Mack’s as a preferred on-campus destination for personal and professional events.

During Mick & Mack’s renovation, the monthly Wine Tastings and Epicure’s Delights will be offered outside on Mick & Mack’s patio and plaza. Wine Tastings will continue to be held the first Thursdays of the month at 5 p.m., for $15. The theme on July 7 will be wines from Germany & Austria; the theme on August 4 will be a selection of great value picks. Epicure’s Delight dinners with wine pairings are held every third Thursday with reservations beginning at 5 p.m. for $20. The themes this summer will be: June 16, Mediterranean Fare; July 21, Maryland Crab Feast; and August 18, Thai Cuisine.

Quick Mick’s will remain open during the Mick & Mack’s renovation.

Students have been formally requesting a campus Taco Bell restaurant in surveys for a number of years, and Dining Services will deliver in time for fall 2011 classes. The restaurant will serve the full menu that keeps the restaurant consistently on the list of top fast food chains in the country.

Papa John’s has been rated by our community as the most favored pizza restaurant, and will replace the current Pizza Hut Express in the TUC food court. The Papa John’s menu will feature full pizzas, in addition to personal sizes. Pizza Hut will close operations at 3 p.m. on Thursday, June 9.

John Hautz, Director of Auxiliary Services for Housing & Food Services states, “After receiving feedback from students and student government representatives, we are pleased to bring two national brands to campus that students are enthusiastic about. By meeting these demands we hope to enhance the overall UC student experience in Tangeman University Center.”

Gold Star Chili will be leaving the food court at the end of the school year, closing operations at the end of service on Friday, June 10. Gold Star has provided excellent service to the campus community for the past seven years.

While construction proceeds in the food court for Taco Bell and Papa John’s, Burger King and Chick-fil-A will provide summer service. KumaNeko Sushi will also continue to round out the TUC food court with freshly prepared daily selections for healthy food on the go. Subway in SSLC, and Starbucks in both SSLC and CCM will be open this summer as well.
