Sociology Professor in UC's McMicken College of Arts and Sciences Receives Gender and Society Award
McMicken College of Arts and Sciences sociology professor David J. Maume received the Katherine Jocher-Belle Boone Beard Award from the Southern Sociological Society for distinguished scholarly contributions to an understanding of gender and society.
Maumes current research includes: how the race and gender of supervisors affects subordinate work outcomes; the effect of the welfare state on the sex gap; gender differences in mobility; and the role gender plays in the effects of sport participation on aggression, deviance, and sexual behavior in adolescents.
Maume also currently serves as the president-elect of the Southern Sociological Society.
I am extremely honored to receive the Jocher-Beard Award, he says. Katherine Jocher was a legend at UNC; my mentor, Rachel Rosenfeld, was the first recipient of this award; and previous awardees have had a profound influence on my teaching and scholarship. It is both humbling and gratifying to have my name added to this list of eminent awardees.
