UC Clermont Celebrates Class of 2018
On Friday, April 27, UC Clermont College recognized the graduating class of 2018 during the colleges annual commencement celebration. More than 600 attendees gathered at the The Crossing Church in Batavia, Ohio, to honor the latest batch of UC Clermont alumni.
Dean Jeff Bauer presided over the ceremony, which recognized more than 400 graduates who completed their degrees in the summer, fall and spring semesters of 2017-2018. Included in this total are the 30 graduates who completed the colleges Bachelor of Technical and Applied Studies in Applied Administration degree in the spring. A number of UC Clermont graduates also took part in UC's all-university commencement on Saturday at Nippert Stadium on the Uptown Campus, where a university-record spring commencement class of nearly 6,500 students were celebrated.
The keynote address was delivered by Distinguished Alumnus Kevin Miles, presiding and administrative judge of the Clermont County Municipal Court. Miles graduated from UC Clermont in 1991 and then transferred to Northern Kentucky University to finish his bachelors degree, where he was first drawn to law through his political science classes. After earning his bachelors, he took the LSAT and enrolled at NKUs Chase College of Law. He eventually served as a Clermont County prosecuting attorney from 2000-2013, was named chief assistant prosecuting attorney in 2013 and later appointed and re-elected to the Clermont County Municipal Court bench. Miles has served as the presiding and administrative judge since January 2016 and shared advice hes learned from his successful career with the new graduates.
Remember the lessons you learned at UC Clermont, Miles said. Remember to trust yourself and your abilities. Tune out the doubt. Remember the path to success is not a straight line for everyone.
The commencement ceremony also honored Outstanding Sophomore Somer Malott, a graduating student earning her associate degree as a multi-skilled health technician with a focus on deaf studies. Malott, a mother of two, plans to continue her studies at UC Clermont in the Bachelor of Technical and Applied Studies program this fall. After receiving her bachelors degree, she plans to pursue a degree in American Sign Language (ASL) interpreting.
My choice (of UC Clermont) was based on not only location and cost, but the close-knit, intimate atmosphere that this campus provides, said Malott, who also noted the tremendous support she received from individual UC Clermont faculty members. My motivation through this whole process was not to just be a student, but to learn as much information as I can so that I can so that when I get out into my career field, I have the confidence and knowledge to do my job to the best of my ability.
