Welcome Our New Students: Volunteer as a 'Helping Hand' During the Annual Move-In

Providing a warm welcome to new students and their families can only be achieved with the help of many hands. So, please join with the campus community in volunteering to help new Bearcats and their families move in Aug. 21-23.

Helping Hands

volunteers, comprised primarily of faculty and staff, have been assisting new Bearcats in this process for over 15 years. This year, UC will welcome over 6,200 students moving in over the course of three days! While the student H.O.T. (Hall Opening Team) helps move carts full of students’ possessions into the halls, the university needs Helping Hands volunteers to:

  • Welcome
  • Assist with directions
  • Answer questions
  • Provide water
  • Help unload vehicles.

In appreciation, all volunteers and coordinators will receive:

  • FREE lunch at CenterCourt or MarketPointe Dining Centers on the day served
  • FREE day pass to the Campus Recreation Center on a day of choice
  • 10 Be Well UC points will be added directly to your account through uc.edu/hr/bewelluc for participating in this on-campus volunteer activity
  • Those who sign up a colleague who's never volunteered before will be eligible to win one of several gifts. Once your colleagues have signed up, email those names to Elaine.Ampfer@uc.edu for your chance to win.

This is a great way to remember who we are serving and to help them get a good start. There is always chaos, there is always a lot of energy, and there are always many, many families excited about this new landmark in their lives. Being able to help them is energizing!

There is no better way to connect with students than helping them move into their home-away-from-home. The Helping Hands program reassures parents their student is in good hands as s/he transitions to independence. It’s a good-mood process.

UC’s Ground Floor Makerspace births combat robots

April 17, 2024

In the heart of UC's 1819 Innovation Hub lies the Ground Floor Makerspace, an advanced and active hub of ingenuity where students, faculty and the community converge to bring their ideas to life. This includes being the birthplace of robots much like miniature race cars, combating fender to fender in an enclosed boxing ring. Combat robots like UC's Maximizer will again be fighting for first place in the National Havoc Robot League (NHRL) competition, slated for April 20.
