COVID-19 Update: October 14, 2020

UC implementing random COVID-19 testing beginning next week

Dear Bearcat,

The response and commitment of our Bearcat Nation to follow health and safety precautions to protect against the spread of COVID-19 has been tremendous. We are proud of your efforts to protect yourself and members of our UC community.

Because we are entering flu and cold season, and in effort to further protect your health and safety, we are also expanding our testing among students. Beginning next week, students who live within UC Housing, come to campus for face-to-face classes and/or work or conduct research on campus will be required to participate when selected for our weekly random testing program.

The university is requiring testing among students to maintain momentum and consistency in response to local, state and national trends and help prevent and mitigate the spread of COVID-19 within the Greater Cincinnati community and beyond.

Students selected to participate will receive an email from University Health Services with details about the testing process and location(s). Students who fail to participate in testing, when officially asked by University Health Services, may lose access to university spaces and services (the equivalent of a Red Pass from the UC COVID Check app), unless an exemption is granted. Exemptions may be granted under certain conditions. And, if you’re not selected for required testing, you can still volunteer to get tested. Additional details regarding exemptions and voluntary testing can be found in the Return to Campus Guide on the public health website.

COVID-19 testing is an important step in our efforts to keep our campus community healthy and continue with university activities. Remember it is up to all of us. Please do your part, Bearcats. Juncta Juvant.
