CNBC: How do you land your first job out of college?

UC invented co-op and leads the country in on-the-job experiences

CNBC talked to a University of Cincinnati senior about how co-op sets students up for success after graduation.

UC pioneered cooperative education in 1906, becoming the first university to adopt a now-popular model in which students gain on-the-job experience at employers in their field for part of the year. Today, it ranks among the top schools for internships and co-ops according to U.S. News & World Report.

Danielle Hall, a senior in UC's College of Engineering and Applied Science, told CNBC that UC co-op advisers helped connect her with co-op employers

“The University of Cincinnati has provided us with great resources by giving us co-op advisers whose job it is to help us find jobs during our collegiate career and give us career guidance,” Hall said. “I feel incredibly lucky to have had my co-op adviser, alongside me during this journey. I also have connections within my industry that I reach out to for advice.”
