CCM's Amplified Voices series presents 'A Tale of Two Tails' movie presentation, Q&A on Nov. 22
Co-created by Alan Rafferty and DeMarre McGill, the new series promotes trailblazing Black artists
The Amplified Voices series at UC's College-Conservatory of Music presents its first event of the 2021-22 season on Monday, Nov. 22. CCM Oboe Professor Titus Underwood will present his movie, A Tale of Two Tails, with CCM alumnus Titilayo Ayangade (BM Cello, '14), who served as Director of Photography for the project. The movie presentation will be followed with a Q&A with the creators.
A Tale of Two Tails illustrates the dichotomy Underwood experiences as a Black man and a classical musician. It serves as a call to action for all creatives, affirming there can be innovation from disruption. The movie will be presented at 6 p.m. on November 22 in the MainStreet Cinema at UC's Tangeman University Center; admission is free.
"I've taken as my personal responsibility to be very, very deeply rooted in what I know so that I can be an agent of change where I go, and always leading with love and leading with open hands not with defense," Titus said to Aaron Dworkin in a recent Arts Engines interview. "I'm always trying my best to be a role model for what I speak on."
Co-created by CCM Cello Professor Alan Rafferty and CCM Flute Professor DeMarre McGill, Amplified Voices is a new series intended to promote and connect trailblazing Black artists to the students and faculty of CCM. Amplified Voices seeks to create opportunities for the CCM community to learn more about the variety of black artistry happening around the country. Last year was difficult for most, if not all, communities and fields, due to the ever-present COVID-19 pandemic and the aftermath of the murder of George Floyd, which shone a spotlight on disturbing realities to much of the country. The art community in particular has been confronted with its own realities in terms of racial disparity and injustice. Amplified Voices was created In response to these realities and in an effort to be a part of the solution.
The health and safety of our community remains our top priority. Based on current conditions, performance venues will be reduced to 50% capacity. All individuals, including audience members and performers, are required to wear facial coverings indoors, following guidelines from the CDC and UC's physician-led COVID response team. Additional measures may be in place as conditions develop based on guidance from the CDC and UC's physician-led COVID response team. Visit the UC Public Health website and CCM's COVID-19 website for additional information and updates.
