Donald Remy will talk to 25 UC student veterans at University Pavilion after a welcome gathering at 12:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 21.

The visit comes at an opportune time for UC, said Terence Harrison, manager of UC’s Office of Veterans Programs and Services.

“We’ve been working hard to meet the academic needs of student veterans at UC,” Harrison said. “And we’ve been doing more to employ veterans at all levels of the institution.

“We’re excited he chose the University of Cincinnati to visit,” Harrison said.

About 3% of UC’s graduates this year were veterans or dependents of veterans.

Remy was appointed in 2021 and confirmed by the U.S. Senate. He serves as the VA’s chief operating and management officer.

The roundtable has limited seating, but students, faculty and staff are welcome to attend the 12:30 p.m. meet and greet at University Pavilion. For more information about participating in the student roundtable or to submit questions for Remy, contact UC Office of Veterans Programs and Services program coordinator Greg Roberson at robersgl@ucmail.uc.edu.

Harrison said he hopes to talk to Remy about expanding certificate programs under the GI Bill.

“I know the VA wants people to obtain a degree, but in some cases, a certificate is all students need to get started in their career,” he said.

UC's Office of Veterans Programs and Services also is taking part in a Field of Flags charitable fundraiser through the DAV, a national nonprofit that raises money for U.S. veterans. Those interested in donating can sponsor a flag that will be placed on a Field of Flags on campus during Veterans Day.
