UC Law’s Jennifer Bergeron & OIP exoneree featured in podcast
Jennifer Bergeron, professor of clinical Law, Ohio Innocence Project, and her client, exoneree Robert McClendon, were guests on the Wrongful Conviction with Jason Flom podcast series where they had the opportunity to discuss McClendon’s case and his life post-exoneration. They also talked about systemic issues within the system, the work that continues to make the system better, and steps for helping those who are freed.
In 1991 McClendon was convicted of the kidnapping and rape of a 10-year-old girl. He was sentenced to 15 years to life in prison. After serving 18 years, a joint investigation by the OIP and the Columbus Dispatch led to DNA testing that proved he was innocent of the crime. In 2008 through the efforts of the OIP, McClendon was exonerated and freed.
