Designing Grad Makes a Timely Win With a Bright Idea

Emily Dow of Lancaster, Ohio, who just graduated in mid-June from the University of Cincinnati’s interior design program, which is ranked

number one

in the nation by the

2003 Almanac of Architecture & Design

, was also just named one of three student winners in a national lighting design competition open to both professionals and students.

As a winner in the Cooper Lighting 26th Annual Source Awards competition, Dow received an award of $500 and the chance to attend educational classes on retail lighting design at the Cooper Lighting Center in Georgia.  Dow entered the competition while still a student in UC's College of Design, Architecture, Art, and Planning and won for her conceptual lighting design of a retail watch boutique called “It’s About Time.”

She figures to attend at least one of Cooper’s lighting courses since it’s likely to help on the new job she’s to start in September, designing retail and park spaces for The Walt Disney Company in Los Angeles.
