UC Women s Center Offers Peer Educator Training
On Oct. 16, 17 and 23, 16 UC students had a full weekend workshop on the skills for becoming peer educators. Various trainers from the Rape Crisis and Abuse Center, UC Police Department, Sexual Assault Nurse Examiners and Psychological Services Center trained the students on the issues surrounding sexual assault and how to prevent it.
As future peer educators, they also learned about body image issues and eating disorders. Dulce Perez of the UC Womens Center is the organizer and principal trainer.
SEED is a peer-education group trained to educate student and community groups to sow the seed of self-acceptance. This group (formerly called Students Educating about Eating Disorders) will be focusing on a variety of body acceptance issues affecting women from all backgrounds. For information concerning SEED, please contact Dulce Perez at dulce.perez@uc.edu .
SOAR (Students Organized Against Rape) is a peer-education group trained to educate student and community groups about sexual assault and what it means to our lives and relationships. SOAR explores the definition of rape, rape myths and stereotypes and rape prevention. For information concerning SOAR, please contact the officers at ucsoar@yahoo.com .
This small cohort of peer educators is now prepared to give SOAR programs (sexual assault prevention) to the campus and university community. To schedule a SOAR program, please contact Kim Fulbright at (513) 556-4329.
If you know of a student, staff/faculty member or visitor to UC who has been sexually assaulted, immediately contact UCs 24-hour Sexual Assault Response Line at (513) 218-9531.
