President Issues Proclamation for International Education Week 2004

President Nancy L. Zimpher, who serves as the chair of the NASULGC Commission on International Programs, has declared Nov. 15-19 as International Education Week on the UC campuses. A schedule of events for the week, including a presentation featuring UC Trustee Gary Heiman, can be found at http://www.uc.edu/global/IEW/Schedule%202004.htm.

 

Here is the full text of the president's proclamation:

 

WHEREAS, International Education Week was founded in 2000 and is sponsored by the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs of the U.S. Department of State and the U.S. Department of Education;

 

WHEREAS, International Education Week is observed at institutions across the United States and in 85 countries overseas;

 

WHEREAS, International Education Week works to heighten our awareness of the vital need for global understanding and presents opportunities for us to learn about the cultures of other nations;

 

WHEREAS, the University of Cincinnati is a multi-cultural environment that fosters understanding of the world’s diverse ways of life, enrolls more than 2,000 international students and promotes international education among its 34,000 undergraduate and graduate students;

 

I hereby declare Nov. 15 -19, 2004, International Education Week at the University of Cincinnati.
