Dan Sparks named Athletic Director at UC Clermont College

Former Indiana basketball coach Dan Sparks was named Athletic Director at the University of Cincinnati Clermont College.

Sparks retired from Vincennes University in 2005 after 26 seasons which included 706 wins, 13 trips to the NJCAA finals and induction into the association’s Hall of Fame. His stellar career produced 706 wins and only 193 losses, the best record ever by a coach at an Indiana college.

His victory total surpasses legendary Indiana coaches such as Bob Knight, Tony Hinkle, Arad McCutcheon and Gene Keady.

“UC Clermont is fortunate to have an individual of Dan’s caliber join our staff. His history of success and extensive experience with both athletic and student activities will help us achieve even higher success and service,” said Dean David H. Devier, UC Clermont College.

Sparks is the first full-time athletic director at UC Clermont.

“I am very excited about the opportunity and challenges that I will face here at the University of Cincinnati Clermont College. The college is in the provisional state of investigating joining the NCAA Division III. We will explore the options of joining a NCAA Division III Conference and what sports programs we would need to add to our athletic program. This position is a great opportunity for me and I am very excited to be a part of the UC Clermont,” said Sparks.

The athletic programs at the college include: men’s and women’s basketball, volleyball, softball and golf.

The men’s and women’s basketball teams will play their inaugural game in the revamped sprung structure called the Student Activities Center on Sunday, January 29. The recycled 16,000 square-foot complex will provide a place for athletes to play on campus for the first time in three decades.  The Lady Cougars play at 1 p.m. and the men play at 3 p.m.
