UC to Announce its Nominees for Truman and Goldwater Scholarships on Dec. 2

The

Office of Nationally Competitive Awards

at the University of Cincinnati is a resource for outstanding students who seek to compete for the most prestigious and most highly competitive scholarships and fellowships.

Since April 2011, the office – led by interim director Marla Hall – has been working with UC students interested in applying for prestigious national and international awards, including the Harry S. Truman Scholarship and the Barry M. Goldwater Scholarship.

At

11 a.m., Friday, Dec. 2

, in a “Celebration of Scholars” ceremony open to the campus community, UC’s nominees for both the Truman and Goldwater scholarships will be announced. Student applicants will be on hand to find out if they are among the university’s nominees for these awards. The event will take place in Room 850 of the Richard E. Lindner Athletics Center.

UC’S STUDENT APPLICANTS

Six UC students have applied to be UC’s nominees for the Truman Scholarship, and seven have applied to be UC’s nominees for a Goldwater Scholarship.

 The students applying for a Truman Scholarship are

 ABOUT THE TRUMAN AND GOLDWATER SCHOLARSHIPS

The Harry S. Truman Scholarship is a highly competitive federal award granted to U.S. college juniors for demonstrated leadership potential and a commitment to public service. The scholarship is in the amount of $30,000 toward a graduate education. The scholarship is awarded to about 60 U.S. college juniors each year.

The Barry M. Goldwater Scholarship and Excellence in Education Program  awards scholarships with a maximum value of $7,500 per academic year to 300 college sophomores and juniors nationwide, with the goal of providing support to future scientists, mathematicians and engineers.
