Norwood City Schools and UC Blue Ash College Launch the Norwood Promise

The Norwood City School District, the "Norwood Promise" and the University of Cincinnati Blue Ash College are proud to announce the formation of an educational partnership that will provide extraordinary opportunities for the children of Norwood. The Norwood Promise, a nonprofit organization, founded by Norwood residents is working to partner with businesses, alumni and parents. The ultimate goal of this organization is to raise the necessary funds to provide graduates of the Norwood City School District with 100 percent of their tuition and mandatory fees at a state university, community college, trade school or private learning center.

The University of Cincinnati Blue Ash College has enthusiastically agreed to partner with the Norwood City School District and the Norwood Promise to assist in making the dream of an affordable and accessible college education a reality for graduates of the school district. Beginning with the 2013-14 school year, all Norwood graduates attending UC Blue Ash will receive a voucher providing for $250 per semester for textbook costs. Along with this tremendous support, UCBA will provide free UCBA campus tours, admission application and financial aid application assistance for all prospective Norwood High School students and their families.

UC's Blue Ash College Dean Cady Short-Thompson stated, "This is a life-changing opportunity for the students and families of the Norwood City Schools. Having the financial support of the community will bring the dream of a college education into reality. We are honored to be a part of the Norwood Promise and welcome Norwood students to UC Blue Ash". Over the past five years UCBA has averaged 150 Norwood City School graduates attending the college.

Norwood Student Cora Miracle commented on the Norwood Promise, "When I was a child, my cousin was diagnosed with leukemia. Since then, I've always wanted to be a pediatrician and work at Children's Hospital. The Norwood Promise will help me to reach my goal!"

On Oct. 30, 2012, at 5 p.m. in the Norwood Middle School auditorium, representatives from the Norwood City School District, the Norwood Promise and the University of Cincinnati Blue Ash held a joint press conference to provide additional details concerning the Norwood Promise and the educational partnership with UCBA.
