'Kristine Donnelly: A Frivolous Act' Featured in Park National Bank Art Gallery at UC Clermont

UC Clermont College will feature "Kristine Donnelly: A Frivolous Act" in the Park National Bank Art Gallery at  from April 2–28. The exhibition is free and open to the public.

Local artist Kristine Donnelly, a Master of Fine Arts graduate of the University of Cincinnati, and current visual art teacher at Highlands High School in Fort Thomas, Ky., exhibits small cut paper collages and large-scale paper sculptures from abstracted patterned forms. The works are the result of a painstaking laborious process in which Donnelly, using only a simple blade, hand cuts intricate designs onto patterned paper. Donnelly states, “The patterns are an unrecognizable image inspired by wallpaper, lace and geometry.” The artist’s enthusiasm for pattern and design began while studying the ornamentation that saturates Eastern Europe through an artist residency in Prague, Czech Republic.

Rather than hiding or preserving the fragility of paper, Donnelly’s works test its tolerance. Through cutting, stitching, pinning and stretching, the artist pushes the material to its most fragile skeleton and beyond. The result, is a flowing exhibit with a slight feminine quality reaching from floor to ceiling continuously engaging the viewer.
