A Flurry of Numbers for UC's December Commencement

The numbers have been crunched in this statistical glance at the more than 2,000 students who have applied to graduate at the University of Cincinnati's Fall Commencement 2014, according to the Office of Institutional Research.


TYPE OF DEGREE

The class of December 2014 includes 2,083 students eligible to graduate. They are earning:

  • 159 associate degrees
  • 1,103 bachelor's degrees
  • 742 master's degrees
  • 93 doctoral degrees
  • 6 professional degrees
  • Total: 2,103 (some students earn multiple degrees)

GEOGRAPHIC BREAKDOWN

  • 46 countries are represented, including the U.S.
  • 48 states are represented.
  • 1,310 graduates are from Ohio, representing 66 counties and accounting for 63 percent of graduates.
  • 67 graduates are from Cincinnati Public Schools.
  • 594 graduates transferred to UC as undergraduates.
  • 414 graduates transitioned to UC's Uptown Campus from the regional campuses – UC Blue Ash College and Clermont College.
  • 592 students graduated from a distance-learning program, and 1,751 graduates took at least one distance-learning course.

  • Overall youngest graduate: 18 years old (associate degree)
  • Youngest bachelor's degree recipient: 19

ETHNICITIES

Minorities accounted for 16.3 percent (341 students) of this summer's graduates.

  • Asian: 2.6 percent
  • Black: 9.2 percent
  • Hispanic: 3 percent
  • Multi-racial: 1.3 percent
  • Native Hawaiian or other Pacific Islander race: 0.1 percent
  • White: 66.4 percent

INSTITUTIONAL AID

  • 1,258 graduates received some form of institutional aid (60 percent).

STEMM DEGREES

  • 909 graduates are in the science, technology, engineering, math or medical fields.

VETERANS

  • 86 graduates are registered with Veterans Programs & Services.

FIRST GENERATION

HONORS

  • Summa cum laude (grade point average between 3.9 and a perfect 4.0): 34
  • Magna cum laude (GPA between 3.75 and 3.8999): 60
