Materials science student explores soft materials and industry application

January 29, 2026

Doctoral student Md Sazzadul Alam Rahat was drawn to materials science and engineering by its interdisciplinary nature. As part of Associate Professor Jonathan Pham's Soft Materials and Interface Group, he has led several projects surrounding microparticles and thin liquid films, is first author on multiple peer-reviewed publications, and was named Graduate Student Engineer of the Month by the College of Engineering and Applied Science.

University of Cincinnati recognized with 16 rankings in U.S. News & World Report’s Best Online Programs

U.S. News and World Report (the global authority in education rankings) published its 2026 Best Online Programs rankings on January 27, 2026, recognizing the University of Cincinnati with 16 spots in the list of degree-granting university programs that affordably serve the educational needs of distance learners in a reasonable timeframe. Programs within the College of Education, Criminal Justice, Human Services, and Information Technology (CECH) represent seven of these rankings.

PhD student uses engineering to understand cardiovascular system

Drawn to the University of Cincinnati for the strong reputation in cardiovascular research and the connections with the UC Medical Center, Shrayesh Manegaonkar is pursuing a PhD in mechanical engineering at the College of Engineering and Applied Science. Recently, he was named Graduate Student Engineer of the Month for his work on biofluid mechanics, aiming to develop better diagnostic tools for cardiovascular diseases.

UC joins national mental health initiative for college students

September 29, 2025

The University of Cincinnati has joined a national program aimed at strengthening mental health support for college students, becoming an official JED Campus as part of the university’s long-standing commitment to supporting student well-being. The JED Campus program, developed by the nonprofit Jed Foundation, helps colleges and universities evaluate and enhance their mental health, substance misuse, and suicide prevention efforts. The initiative guides schools through a four-year strategic process to build comprehensive systems of care.

Grad student designs a future with NYC co-op

UC mourns the passing of former first lady Carol R. Steger

August 19, 2025

Carol R. Steger, former first lady of the University of Cincinnati, died on August 12, 2025 at the age of 85. Steger served as UC’s first lady from 1984 to 2013. Her husband, Joseph A. Steger, was UC’s 24th president and had the second-longest term in the university’s history. President Steger died in 2013.
