Engineering student works to ensure responsible use of AI

University of Cincinnati aerospace engineering doctoral student Lynn Pickering is using Fuzzy Logic to create an artificial intelligence structure that is fair, usable, and understandable for humans. This is called Explainable Artificial Intelligence. Pickering is a recipient of the Fulbright Ghent University Award and was named Graduate Student Engineer of the Month by UC’s College of Engineering and Applied Science.

Electrical engineering student encourages young women in STEM

For four years, University of Cincinnati doctoral student Brooke Campbell has been a graduate assistant in the UC Undergraduates Pursuing Research in Science and Engineering (UPRISE) program. After working for five years in the tech industry, she returned to school to pursue a graduate degree. Her research work focuses on using a process called electrospinning to create nanofibers loaded with medicine for targeted drug delivery. She was named Graduate Student Engineer of the Month by UC’s College of Engineering and Applied Science.

Biomedical engineer driven to create a better life for her sister

Dominique Tanner, a biomedical engineering doctoral candidate at the University of Cincinnati, finds motivation from her sister. Diagnosed with epilepsy at just a few months old, her sister has experienced seizures all her life. Tanner became determined to learn about the condition and dedicated herself to a career in helping her sister and others like her. She is the second black woman to receive a Ph.D. in biomedical engineering at UC and was named Graduate Student Engineer of the Month by the College of Engineering and Applied Science.

UC engineering co-op medalist is company's first in Portugal

Vladimir Miskovic began playing American football as a high-schooler— which was not a popular activity in his home country of Serbia — and the sport led him to the United States. He moved to Cleveland to play football and, after graduating high school, decided to pursue higher education in mechanical engineering at the University of Cincinnati. Miskovic received the 2023 Herman Schneider Medal, an annual award given to a graduating senior in the College of Engineering and Applied Science who demonstrates exceptional work as a co-op student.

Highly decorated UC engineering student presents at global conference

April 26, 2023

University of Cincinnati student Rebecca Gilligan found a passion for engineering as a teenager at a local high school. After earning her bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, she is staying at UC to begin the direct-Ph.D. program in aerospace engineering. While at UC, Gilligan has received numerous prestigious awards, the latest being the Presidential Leadership Medal of Excellence. This award, given by the University President, is bestowed upon students who best exemplify the ideals of the university including scholarship, leadership and character.

This award is given to an individual who has displayed commitment to the university through academic success, leadership in diverse settings and significant contributions to UC.

Aerospace engineer named graduate student of the month

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, aerospace engineering graduate student Harpreet Singh Chhabra had to complete his first semester at the University of Cincinnati online while he was still in India. He hit the ground running when he arrived on campus — he was elected treasurer of the Aerospace Engineering Graduate Student Association, served as a teaching assistant for several aerospace courses and was named Graduate Student Engineer of the Month by UC's College of Engineering and Applied Science.
