Engineer harnesses magnetism to drive alternative energy source

She received the prestigious National Science Foundation (NSF) CAREER Award to fund this project for the next several years. Since earning her PhD from The Ohio State University, she has been at UC's College of Engineering and Applied Science.

While she was preparing to begin her undergraduate program at UC, she received the news that one of her pieces was selected to be displayed in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, or the Met, the largest art museum in the Americas.

Environmental engineer studying Ohio River pollution

She is studying per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances to better understand how to improve the environment. Recently, she was named Graduate Student Engineer of the Month from the UC College of Engineering and Applied Science (CEAS).

High school program draws local students to engineering

In a handful of cities around the world, including Cincinnati, GE Aerospace Foundation partners with local organizations and universities to run the Next Engineers program, a global college-and career-readiness program working to increase the diversity of young people in engineering. University of Cincinnati student Kallab Hailu Abebe was in the first cohort of GE Next Engineering Academy Graduates, and was inspired to enroll in a higher education engineering program after his experience.

John Weidner, Ph.D., dean of the College of Engineering and Applied Science at the University of Cincinnati, has announced the appointment of Joel Alejandro (Alex) Mejia, Ph.D., as the head of the Department of Engineering and Computing Education, effective January 1, 2025.

UC engineer studying renewable energy sources

Katherine Schlaak came to University of Cincinnati as a student for her bachelor’s degree in physics, and stayed for her master’s degree and doctoral degree in materials science and engineering. Her PhD research in the Energy Conversion Materials lab is related to renewable energy.

UC engineer honored with presidential award

The highest honor bestowed upon scientists by the U.S. government, the Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers (PECASE) was founded by President Clinton during his time in office. The award recognizes engineers and scientists who exemplify valuable potential for leadership early in their research career. Recently, the University of Cincinnati’s Joel Alejandro (Alex) Mejia, was named a PECASE honoree.

UC civil engineering student inspires young women in construction

From a young age, Gracie Hill was inspired by her father's career in the construction field. He earned his degree from the University of Cincinnati's College of Engineering and Applied Science and she wanted to do the same. Now at UC she has developed a website that aims to recruit, retain and promote the success of women in the construction industry. She works under the guidance of Emeritus Professor George Suckarieh.

Materials science student seeks to improve health care

At the University of Cincinnati, innovation is a pillar of education, something that drew doctoral candidate Yuxin Wang to continue her studies here. Under the guidance of Professor Donglu Shi, Wang is researching how nanomaterials can be used in medical drug delivery and diagnostics to improve health care outcomes. She was recently named Graduate Student Engineer of the Month by the College of Engineering and Applied Science.
