UC student inspired by his father to become an engineer

Varad Maitra grew up in a small town in India where he watched his father work as an engineer. Seeing large machinery like tractors and trucks being built began his passion for manufacturing, higher education and the belief in hard work. Now a doctoral student at the University of Cincinnati, Maitra demonstrates this hard work in the classroom, the lab and with fellow students. He was named Graduate Student Engineer of the Month by UC's College of Engineering and Applied Science.

UC engineering student aims to introduce robots into daily life

Yufeng Sun, University of Cincinnati aerospace engineering doctoral student, returned to academia for a transformative experience. Prior to beginning his doctoral studies, he worked for more than 10 years at Autodesk, a Computer Aided Design (CAD) software company. While at UC, he has mentored undergraduate students, served as a teaching assistant in several courses and provided visiting high school students with an introduction to aerospace engineering research. Through these interactions with students and witnessing their success, he developed a great passion for mentoring and was recently named Graduate Student Engineer of the Month from UC’s College of Engineering and Applied Science.

Engineering graduate student works to change the future of aviation

Jorge Betancourt, an aerospace engineering doctoral student at the University of Cincinnati, is researching rotating detonation combustors that are slated to impact the future of aviation and rocketry. Thus far during his time at UC, Betancourt has had the opportunity to create assignments that challenge and help students understand material as a teaching assistant and was named Graduate Student Engineer of the Month by the College of Engineering and Applied Science.

UC engineering student merges human language, computer science

August 7, 2023

Zedong Peng came to the University of Cincinnati to continue his research in software engineering, focusing on natural language processing and metamorphic testing. At UC he has served as a teaching assistant for several courses in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, has published several peer-reviewed papers and was recently named Graduate Student Engineer of the Month by UC's College of Engineering and Applied Science. After graduating, Peng will serve as assistant professor in the Department of Computer Science at the University of Montana.

UC dean awarded for engineering change

The University of Cincinnati's Whitney Gaskins, Ph.D., has been awarded the Engineering Change Individual Award sponsored by The Peer Group. This award, built on the premise of Dr. Yvette E. Peterson's Engineering Change podcast, recognizes an individual who focuses on equity, diversity and inclusion and how it relates to STEM fields.

Mechanical engineering student saw how graduate school can open doors

July 27, 2023

Bennett Breese, mechanical engineering student at the University of Cincinnati, did not plan on going to graduate school. While he was an undergraduate student, he attended a conference held by the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics and his plan changed. Breese was chosen as Graduate Student Engineer of the Month by the College of Engineering and Applied Science.

UC engineering professor works to improve aviation technology and safety

Prashant Khare, an associate professor of aerospace engineering at the University of Cincinnati, is investigating the fluid physics relevant to supersonic and hypersonic propulsion. With this research, the goal is to significantly enhance the state of knowledge that will pave the way for faster, safer, less polluting and more efficient airplane engines.

UC adds new industrial and systems engineering degrees

The College of Engineering and Applied Science (CEAS) at the University of Cincinnati introduced both undergraduate and graduate degrees in industrial and systems engineering (ISE). The versatile degrees, housed in the Department of Mechanical and Materials Engineering, will equip students with skills and experiences that will prepare them to design, analyze and optimize complex systems and processes within various industries using a blend of skills from engineering, data science, computer science and business. Students can choose to focus their degree on the growing fields of data analytics, healthcare systems and Industry 4.0/5.0.

CEAS Expo showcases engineering capstone projects

The second annual College of Engineering and Applied Science (CEAS) Expo featured the capstone projects of senior engineering students from the University of Cincinnati. College faculty, staff, students, alumni and industry professionals attended the event organized by CEAS Tribunal, the college student government group, and held at the Duke Energy Convention Center in downtown Cincinnati.
