UC engineering student aims to introduce robots into daily life

Yufeng Sun, University of Cincinnati aerospace engineering doctoral student, returned to academia for a transformative experience. Prior to beginning his doctoral studies, he worked for more than 10 years at Autodesk, a Computer Aided Design (CAD) software company. While at UC, he has mentored undergraduate students, served as a teaching assistant in several courses and provided visiting high school students with an introduction to aerospace engineering research. Through these interactions with students and witnessing their success, he developed a great passion for mentoring and was recently named Graduate Student Engineer of the Month from UC’s College of Engineering and Applied Science.

Materials science student seeks to improve health care

At the University of Cincinnati, innovation is a pillar of education, something that drew doctoral candidate Yuxin Wang to continue her studies here. Under the guidance of Professor Donglu Shi, Wang is researching how nanomaterials can be used in medical drug delivery and diagnostics to improve health care outcomes. She was recently named Graduate Student Engineer of the Month by the College of Engineering and Applied Science.

Engineering undergraduate students get early research experience

The University of Cincinnati College of Engineering and Applied Science established the Undergraduate Research Fellowship Co-op Program to expand opportunities for students to engage in meaningful research in labs. Most students spend five semesters working in industry through the cooperative education (co-op) program, but students can also choose research positions in corporate, university, or government labs. Many students opt for a research co-op if they are considering a career in research or plan to attend graduate or medical school.

UC ASHRAE chapter wins decarbonization grant

University of Cincinnati engineering students have partnered with a local sustainability organization, Faith Communities Go Green, to improve energy efficiency in a Cincinnati church. Civil and architectural engineering students are using the data gathered from an energy audit to transform energy use in the church. This project is funded by ASHRAE, a global society of heating, refrigerating, and air-conditioning engineers.

CEAS alumna at the forefront of AI chip innovation

During her time as a graduate student at the University of Cincinnati, Devika Chauhan, PhD played a vital role in elevating UC's cutting-edge research on carbon nanotube synthesis and its state-of-the-art applications. Now employed by Intel, she applies the knowledge from her graduate experience at UC to develop future artificial intelligence (AI) chips.

Biomedical engineering student contributes to cancer research

University of Cincinnati PhD student Maulee Sheth has been named Graduate Student Engineer of the Month by the College of Engineering and Applied Science. A biomedical engineering student, she works in the Esfandiari lab on cancer tumor microenvironment research to better understand the disease. Through her time here, she has collaborated with researchers at Cincinnati Children's Hospital and the UC College of Medicine.

Engineering students to improve water infrastructure in Rwanda

For nearly 20 years, students at the University of Cincinnati have traveled all around the world to work with communities to provide them with clean water and improved infrastructure. Through Engineers Without Borders (EWB), a national organization, UC students have worked in Tanzania, Kenya, and most recently, Gikingo, Rwanda.
