UC announces new head of Department of Computer Science

The University of Cincinnati’s College of Engineering and Applied Science named Justin Zhan as professor and head of the newly established Department of Computer Science, effective August 15, 2022. Zhan comes to UC from the University of Arkansas, where he was Arkansas Research Alliance scholar and professor of data science. His research interests include data science, big data, artificial intelligence, blockchain technologies, biomedical informatics, information assurance, and social computing.

UC engineer named highly cited researcher for fourth consecutive year

Dionysios (Dion) Dionysiou, a University of Cincinnati professor in the Department of Chemical and Environmental Engineering, was named a 2021 Highly Cited Researcher by Clarivate for the fourth consecutive year for his work addressing water pollution, conservation and treatment. His research includes creating sensors to detect cyanotoxins in water sources and how to break down PFAS, the "forever chemical."

PhD student aims to improve how engineering is taught

Jutshi Agarwal was the first doctoral student to enroll in the University of Cincinnati's engineering education graduate degree program. After earning two degrees in aerospace engineering, she realized the next step was to follow her passion for teaching to help improve the way engineering students are taught. She also launched a student chapter of American Society for Engineering Education.

Chemical engineering student researches nanoparticle drug delivery

Vishnu Sriram came to the University of Cincinnati from his home country of India to pursue a master’s in chemical engineering. He decided to stay at UC for his Ph.D. to research nanoparticle gene and drug delivery that could someday lead to improved cancer treatments.

Engineering students showcase capstone projects at CEAS Expo

Graduating engineering undergraduates from the University of Cincinnati’s College of Engineering and Applied Science gathered for the inaugural CEAS Expo in April to showcase their senior capstone projects to more than 500 attendees, including faculty, staff, alumni and industry representatives. The event, organized by the college and CEAS Tribunal student government, was held in downtown Cincinnati at the Duke Energy Convention Center.

UC co-op medalist thrives in NASA internships

May 10, 2022

University of Cincinnati student Anna Lanzillotta dreamed of working as an engineer in the aerospace and aviation industry. Now, Lanzillotta is graduating with an electrical engineering degree, experience working at NASA for four cooperative education jobs, and a full-time job in the aerospace industry. Lanzillotta was selected for the 2022 Herman Schneider Medal, which is awarded annually to a graduating senior in UC’s College of Engineering and Applied Science for distinction as an exemplary co-op student who has taken full advantage of the unique opportunities of cooperative education.

UC engineering professor honored for energy process expertise

February 24, 2022

Raj Manglik, a University of Cincinnati professor of mechanical engineering, was awarded the Donald Q. Kern Award from the American Institute of Chemical Engineers for contributions in the fields of heat transfer, transport phenomena and energy processes. Manglik’s career includes significant research contributions in thermal science and engineering, including an ongoing Department of Energy-supported project to eliminate water-cooled power production and replace it with his patented air-cooled system.

Alumnus honored for building Black Achievers professional network

Michael Moore, a University of Cincinnati mechanical engineering alumnus, was featured by the Cincinnati USA Regional Chamber in its Making Black History celebration honoring seven Black leaders living, working and building legacies in the region. Moore is the founder, CEO and president of Black Achievers, a nonprofit, professional networking organization with more than 4,000 members in Cincinnati and 30,000 nationwide.
