CCM Guitar's 50th Anniversary Gala Concert features alumni guests

Celebrate the 50th anniversary of CCM’s Classical Guitar program with a special concert featuring distinguished alumni in solos and ensembles performed by Amy Brucksch, Duane Corn, Brian DeLay, Murray Holland, Luke Jackson, Julie Goldberg, James Meade, Leighann Narum and Matthew Trkula. The concert will include the world premiere of three new works written for the occasion by Wenbin Lyu, Christopher Teves and Christopher Wilke as well as a guitar orchestra made of alumni and current students. The gala also recognizes the program’s founder Professor Emeritus Clare Callahan with the launch of a new scholarship named in her honor to help promising young guitarists achieve their dreams.

The Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra (CSO) and the UC College-Conservatory of Music (CCM) are proud to announce recent successes of their CSO/CCM Diversity Fellowship program. Established in 2015 and launched with a grant from The Mellon Foundation, the nationally-recognized program amplifies and supports extraordinary young string players from populations historically underrepresented in American orchestras through a specialized, two-year graduate degree-level education, professional development and mainstage performance opportunities with the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra. Four CSO/CCM Diversity Fellows have obtained full-time positions with major American orchestras for the 2022-23 season; additional Diversity Fellows successes include careers in music education, social change and orchestral administration.

On Feb. 17, the CCM Philharmonia will showcase its stars-of-tomorrow in a riveting concert that’s sure to offer something for everyone. The performance, titled “Carnival!” will begin with Shawn Okpebholo’s Kutimbua Kivumbi (Stomp the Dust!). Okpebholo received his master’s and doctoral degrees in composition from CCM, and his music has been described as "devastatingly beautiful" and "fresh and new and fearless" by the Washington Post.
