National Down Syndrome Society partners with UC Health’s Timothy...

The National Down Syndrome Society (NDSS) and UC Health’s Timothy Freeman, MD, Center for Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities are working together to advance care for adults with Down syndrome and other intellectual and developmental disabilities in the Greater Cincinnati region and nationwide. Through a gift of $100,000, NDSS is supporting a program manager for the center that will allow clinical teams to grow a model of holistic, patient-centered care that the organization hopes can be replicated in other areas of the country.

Pickle, a physician with UC Health and an associate professor of Family and Community Medicine at the UC College of Medicine, is an advocate for transgender medicine within her practice and at the college.

Statehouse News: Ohio doctors recommend getting COVID-19...

September 14, 2022

The Ohio Department of Health recently announced COVID-19 boosters with the new formulation to target Omicron subvariants BA.4 and BA.5 are now available statewide. The Pfizer booster is available to Ohioans 12-years-old and older and the Moderna vaccine is available to those 18 years and up. Doctors are urging Ohioans to get those vaccines now. One of those Ohio doctors is Anna Goroncy, MD, of the Department of Family and Community Medicine at the UC College of Medicine.

UC research examines COVID-19 vaccine hesitancy

One of the major roadblocks in the fight against the spread of COVID-19 in the early days of the pandemic was people refusing to get vaccinated against the virus. New research at UC examines that vaccine hesitancy and provides key insights into the behaviors and perceptions of the U.S. population during a critical time of the COVID-19 pandemic, just as vaccines were becoming more available.

WCPO: Tri-State recognizes Transgender Day of Visibility

March 31 is Transgender Day of Visibility and some events are marking the day in Cincinnati. Attention is also being brought to the transgender medicine program started in 2016 at the UC College of Medicine by Sarah Pickle, MD, of the Department of Family and Community Medicine. WCPO interviewed fourth-year medical student Malia Schram about the program.
