"Into the Streets" Registration Information

Date: Oct. 18, 2000

Registration is underway for UC students to volunteer their time to benefit the community. The 10th annual "Into the Streets" Saturday, Oct. 21 is expected to attract hundreds of UC students to work in conjunction with several local community agencies.

The national community service initiative is sponsored locally by UC's Community Service Programs office. Students will be working with Tender Mercies, Over-the-Rhine Housing Network, People Working Cooperatively, the Cincinnati Park Board, and City Gospel Mission. Projects range from painting to cleanup. For example, in Burnet Woods, students will be doing maintenance work on the trails.

"As you know, Burnet Woods brings out the Clifton community and the campus community and as our office gets affected by budget issues, we need to rely more on the community," said Cindy Nugent, volunteer coordinator for the Cincinnati Parks Board. "Their efforts are vital to keep the park looking good."

Since the program was launched, "Into the Streets" has served thousands of people in communities around the Cincinnati area.

Students are encouraged to sign up at:

Contact: Matthew George, student coordinator, 556-1559

Participants will meet at 9 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 21 in the basement of St. Monica-St. George, 328 West McMillan. Students can also register the day of the event.
