December 1 is the last Saturday for UC students to blow off steam before finals, and MainStreet is here to help.
Between the conclusion of the football game against Louisiana-Monroe (1 p.m. at Nippert Stadium) and the Men's Basketball game with Duquesne (6:05 p.m. at the Shoemaker Center), MainStreet will host its first "SportsZone."
SportsZone is a place for students to congregate between games for good food, entertainment and prizes. This SportsZone party will take place at the Event Pavilion at 3 p.m. Saturday, December 1.
Headlining the event is regional rock favorite, Oval Opus. During SportsZone, students can participate in contests to win a pair of prime tickets to the UC Men's basketball game against DePaul (January 16). A "Coney Eating Contest" will be the first chance to win these great seats. The other chance at a pair of tickets features a competitive dart contest.
"This is the last Saturday students will have a chance to cut loose before finals," says Maggie Stevens, program coordinator for student organizations and activities. "SportsZone will allow students to do that without leaving campus."
Admission is free and students will receive a free MainStreet collector's cup and unlimited soft drinks. Chili will also be available for a nominal charge.
SportsZone is just part of the many programming opportunities MainStreet has provided students this year. "MainStreet has sponsored or co-sponsored 14 events this fall quarter alone," said Tom Hadley, associate vice president of student affairs and human resources. "It has been our commitment from day one of this project to bring the MainStreet culture to UC, even before the buildings are complete."
