COVID-19 Updates:


Starfish Early Alert is designed to facilitate communication between instructors and students. It allows instructors to provide early feedback to students through the use of targeted e-mail and text messages. Academic advisors and other staff on campus may be able to view these messages and provide additional support to the student. These alerts can address concerns and additionally offer praise. Early Alert is designed to give you more information about how your students are doing mid-semester in an effort to enhance your student-advisee relationships.


Advising Expectations

  • Monitor tracking items throughout the semester and reach out to students based on your advising center or department’s business practices.
  • Advisors will receive an immediate notification when a student has received an "In Danger of Failing" notification or have had "3 or more" or "6 or more" flags raised during the semester. Reach out to those students within three business days of the flags being raised to connect the students to appropriate resources.
  • Clearing a flag (or closing the loop) is not required by all colleges, but is encouraged. Please check with your Advising Director if you are unsure if you are required to clear the flags.
