How do I request access to Starfish?

If you are an academic advisor, you will gain access to Starfish once you are assigned to at least one student in Catalyst. Other staff members, please complete the Starfish request form.

 

A student is unable to find me in Starfish to schedule an appointment. How can I be added to their Starfish?

There are several reasons a student cannot find you in Starfish:

They are using an incompatible browser. Ensure that your student is using the most current version of their browser.

They are not scrolling through their whole Success Network. Suggest to your student to use Ctrl + F and type your name to find you in the list.

You are not assigned to the student in Catalyst. Once you assign yourself to the student, you will appear in the student’s starfish within 24-48 hours.

You just assigned yourself to the student that day. It takes 24-48 hours for the Catalyst assignment to show in Starfish.

Why am I receiving alerts for students who should not be associated with me?

Starfish reads the advisor assignments from Catalyst. If you see a student in Starfish, you are most likely still associated to them in Catalyst. Once that assignment is fixed, it will take 24-48 hours for the student to be removed from your list in Starfish.

 

Why do I receive an error in Starfish when trying to sync it to Outlook?

You either have not shared your calendar with Starfish (link to syncing guide) or your email address is missing and/or is incorrect in Starfish. Check your email address in Starfish by clicking on your name and then institutional profile. If it is incorrect, you will need to update your email address in Blackboard (found under Tools and Personal Information). It will take 24-48 hours for the email address to update in Starfish. Why are students able to schedule with me when I have that time blocked off in Outlook?

This should not be happening, but if it is, please submit a request with the IT Helpdesk with the following:

How far in advance can students make appointments with me?

There is no limit on how far in advance students can schedule with you. However, Starfish can only read your busy times from Outlook 86 days into the future. It is suggested to guide your students to schedule appointments no further than two months out or risk cancelation.

 

I received an email that says a student has received “3 or more” flags, but I do not see the additional flags in the student folder.

This issue happens periodically and can be resolved quickly by reaching out to Starfish Help. You can request help directly through Starfish or submit a request with the IT Helpdesk.

 

I get a blank screen when I click on Starfish from Blackboard. How do I access Starfish?
