About the Process

You may be wondering what happens next or who will be contacting you. We are here to help and support you through this process. Here is a quick summary of what to expect.

If you receive a positive result for COVID-19 from UC’s testing at University Health Services (UHS) or Wild Health, your results will be reported to UC’s COVID team automatically. If you reported a positive COVID-19 test, symptoms, or a possible exposure in the COVID Check app on your phone, the COVID Check Team will be notified.

A case investigator or contact tracer from the COVID Check Team will contact you to discuss your symptoms, health resources, and recent contacts. To promote the health and safety of our entire community, it is extremely important that you are honest with the team members throughout your quarantine or isolation period.

While you’re waiting to talk to the COVID Check team, make a note of any questions you or your family have, so you can remember when they call. It’s also helpful if you start thinking about who you may have been in contact with over the past several days.

Where will I stay?

Residents of on-campus housing have the option of going home or staying in university residence hall space set aside for quarantine and isolation. In Summer 2021, quarantine and isolation will transition from CRC Hall to Schneider Hall. UC staff will provide support throughout your time in quarantine and isolation.

Until you can relocate, please remain in your current residence hall room and take all precautions to avoid transmitting COVID-19 to others (e.g. mask wearing, social distancing, hand hygiene, etc.).

Students residing off-campus who need to quarantine or isolate are encouraged to follow CDC guidelines and maintain social distance from others until 10 days without symptoms have passed.

What should I pack?

When packing, consider how long you will be staying in quarantine or isolation housing. If entering quarantine, you may consider packing extra should you develop COVID-19 and need to stay longer.

  • Comfortable clothing and shoes
  • Pillow and any additional bedding you may want (linens, blanket, towel, and washcloth are provided)
  • Prescription medications
  • Over-the-counter medications to assist with your comfort (pain reliever, cough syrup, etc.)
  • Masks/facial coverings
  • Personal hygiene items
  • Computer and charger
  • Cell phone and charger
  • Class materials (pens/pencils, class materials, textbooks, notebooks, etc.)
  • Bearcat Card ID
  • Entertainment (video games, art supplies, etc.)
  • Snacks and beverages (microwave and refrigerator provided in each room)

Who will contact me and when?

During quarantine and isolation, you’ll primarily be communicating with the following COVID-19 Team Members:

  • COVID Check Team: This team of case investigators and contact tracers provides health education and support.
  • Housing Team: This team coordinates your relocation to temporary housing, makes dining arrangements, and assists with you check out process at the conclusion of your stay.
  • CARE Team: This team provides a wide range of support (including referrals, advocacy, and academic guidance) to ensure your holistic well-being and success during quarantine and isolation.

It is extremely important that you answer phone calls and text messages, and respond to emails from UC's COVID-19 team.

Day 1

On Day 1, you will speak with both the COVID Check team (regarding symptoms, recent contacts, and important health resources) and the Housing team (regarding relocating you to temporary campus housing).

Day 2 through day of release

Each day, you will speak with the CARE team, who will contact you to provide a wellness check, advocacy, and support. You will also receive text messages if the team is unable to connect with you by phone. If you need anything at all, please share that with the CARE team.

Each day, you will receive a daily email from the COVID Check team reminding you to complete the COVID Check app assessment.

Isolating students will also receive a periodic check-in from University Health Services staff.

Day before release

On the day before you are supposed to be released, you will contacted by the COVID Check team regarding completion of your final assessment in the COVID Check app. They will then send a follow-up email confirming release.

Additionally, the Housing team will follow up with you to assist with your release, walk through the move out process, and arrange any transportation to prepare you for release the next day.

Release day and check out

On the day of your release, you will be served breakfast. Before you leave, you will need to complete move out procedures as discussed the day before. After released, your COVID Check appwill be reset to the Green pass. Upon return to your regular residence hall, you will be expected to continue to follow UC’s COVID-19 safety precautions, including social distancing, facial coverings and hand and surface hygiene.
