Sarah Grant Barber Award

This annual award is granted to a professional advisor, faculty advisor, advising administrator, or advising support personnel and is sponsored by UCAADA and the Office of Advising and Academic Services.

Award Critera

The Selection Committee will evaluate nominations on the evidence of qualities and practices that distinguish the nominee as an outstanding individual in one of the aforementioned categories. Evaluative categories may include:

  1. Integration of NACADA’s Core Values and CAS Standards and Guidelines for Academic Advising
    •  NACADA’s Core Values: Advisors are responsible…
      • to the individuals they advise.
      • for involving others, when appropriate, in the advising process
      • to their institutions.
      • to higher education in general.
      • to their educational community.
      • for their professional practices and for themselves personally.
    • CAS Standards and Guidelines for Academic Advising categories:

      • Program
      • Organization and Leadership
      • Human Resources
      • Ethics
      • Law, Policy, and Governance

  2. Participation in and support of professional development (i.e. advising research, publication, workshop attendance or presentation)

Application Components 

Nominations can be submitted by faculty, staff, or students (including self-nominations)

  1. Completion of the online nomination form (which will be available in late February 2020)
  2. Include a letter in support of your nomination, telling the awards committee how this advisor meets the above qualities.  Please use 12pt Times New Roman font, double-spaced with one inch margins and limit the letter to no more than 2 (two) pages. 
  3. Up to 5 additional support letters from colleagues or students are encouraged, but not required.  Please use 12pt Times New Roman font, double-spaced with one inch margins and limit the letter to no more than 1 page per letter.
