A team of researchers at UC conducted an ergonomic assessment of employees at the university by sending an email survey earlier this year to 4,500 faculty and staff after the coronavirus pandemic prompted the university to ask workers to continue operations from home when possible. The survey had 843 people complete it and showed some trends and offered a glimpse into what many who work from home were encountering. Susan Kotowski, PhD, a UC associate professor of allied health sciences, was part of a team of researchers conducting the survey. She spoke to Fast Company for a story about ergonomics in makeshift home offices.

The college ranking and review service Niche released its 2023 college rankings and gave UC the top spot in the ‘Best college locations in Ohio’ category.

Sports gambling became legal in Ohio as of Jan. 1, 2023 and the University of Cincinnati College of Allied Health Sciences is one of six organizations statewide to get an Ohio grant to train social workers to better handle problem gamblers in the coming year. Local12 posted a story on the program.

Concerns in the community continue due to the noise of gunshots coming from a Cincinnati Police Department gun range in Evendale. Brian Earl, PhD, in the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders in the UC College of Allied Health Sciences conducted audiology tests in 2020 to measure the impact of the noise and was interviewed by WCPO-TV.

According to the most recent Ohio Gambling Survey, the number of people in Ohio with a problem gambling disorder tripled from 2017 to 2022 to more than 250,000. With sports betting legal in Ohio for more than a year, that trend is expected to continue.
