Paul Bishop, associate dean for research and Herman Schneider Professor of Environmental Engineering, has been named the 2005 recipient of the Frontier Award in Research by the Association of Environmental Engineering and Science Professors (AEESP). Bishop's award is in recognition for his exceptional research in the areas of biofilms and micro/nano electrodes.

UC created its Institute for Nanoscale Science and Technology to offer promise of ground-breaking advances in physics, chemistry, materials science, electronics and medicine. The institute was developed through collaboration among UC s McMicken College of Arts & Sciences, the Colleges of Engineering and Medicine, and the Vice President for Research and Advanced Studies. Many nanotechnology activities are taking place at the University of Cincinnati.

The University of Cincinnati is ranked among the top 200 universities in the world, according to the Institute of Higher Education at Shanghai Jiao Tong University. The institute reviews more than two thousand universities, ranks the top 500 and publishes the rankings annually.

Two students from UC s College of Business have been accepted as Presidential Fellows in the Center for the Study of the Presidency (CSP) Program. Brian Delany and Andrew Jandes will be the University of Cincinnati s first Scholar Fellows. The College of Business was invited to nominate students to be part of this unique and prestigious program.

Who do we blame when things go wrong? The answer depends on who we are. Daniel Laufer's research into consumers blame behavior has made him one of the leading experts in consumer product crises. Laufer, assistant professor of marketing at the University of Cincinnati, was interviewed by WVXU's "Cincinnati Edition" host Katie Orr about the public's reaction to Hurricane Katrina.

A group of University of Cincinnati undergraduates participated this summer in UC s Research Experience for Women Undergraduates (REWU) program. Through this program, undergraduate women have been helping to solve complex problems in pediatrics, biology, chemistry, geology, mathematics, physics, medicine, pharmacy and engineering.

Four young men from the University of Cincinnati three from the College of Engineering and one from the College of Business spent their summer co-oping in Germany. They took time from their busy schedules to watch the Tour de France and cheer for a fellow American.

A reception for the Diana Walker photography exhibit at the William Howard Taft Home, Auburn Avenue, is scheduled for Thursday, Sept. 8, from 4-6 p.m. The traveling exhibit, produced by the Smithsonian Institution s National Museum of American History, Behring Center, features 83 of Walker s black-and-white and color photographs documenting key figures and events in American history over the past 25 years. Diana Walker was Time magazine's White House photographer for 20 years.
