UC Clermont Women's Basketball Team Earns Bid to USCAA National Championship Tournament in Uniontown, Pa.
The UC Clermont College womens basketball team received a bid to the 2012 United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) National Championship Tournament being held from March 6-10 on the campus of Penn State Fayette in Uniontown, Penn.
UC Clermont College will open play on Wednesday, March 7 at 9:30 p.m. as the No. 6 seed against No. 11 Spalding University.
We are extremely excited to be heading to the USCAA nationals again this season. The team has improved all season finishing 15-3 in our last 18 games. We have high hopes in this tournament, said Head Coach Mike Matthews. Adding, The Lady Cougars have won over 25 games a season over the last five seasons, compiling a total record of 135 wins during that span. Additionally, this season may very well see our second USCAA All-American Player selection since Katie Ely (Reading High School) in 2007. Academically, Dawn Rapp (Clermont Northeastern) and Marisa Stutz (Felicity), have been selected USCAA National Academic All-Americans.
"The women will be making their fifth consecutive appearance at the tournament. The Clermont College community wishes them luck in Uniontown, said Brian Sullivan, athletic director at UC Clermont College. The Lady Cougars finished their regular season 26-12 and clinched the Ohio Collegiate Athletic Conference again this year.
The team racked up awards at the Ohio Collegiate Athletic Conference banquet last week, including: First Team All Conference: Marissa Stutz (Felicity) and Ashley Keith (Clark Montessori), Second Team All Conference: Portia Cochrum (Western Hills), Honorable Mention: Regan Hauke (Eastern Brown), Player of the Year: Marissa Stutz (Felicity) and Coach of the Year: Mike Matthews.
