Carl H. Lindner College of Business Announces New Center for Business Analytics
The Lindner College of Business recently launched the UC Center for Business Analytics, bringing together companies, students and faculty for data analysis to boost business and organizational performance.
Lindner College of Business Dean David M. Szymanski says the new center offers a unique and valued partnership among faculty, students and the business community.
The center offers expertise to help firms leverage their data, gaining deeper insights to optimize their overall performance while allowing our students to strengthen their analytical skill set, he says.
Professor Jeff Camm, the Centers director and department head of Operations, Business Analytics, and Information Systems (OBAIS), says students will benefit from using analytical data methods to solve real-world industry problems from sponsoring firms.
The projects will involve the use of analytics on a problem of interest to the firm, Camm says. The sponsoring firm gets exposure to our students, a value-added project, and our students get valuable experience on a real project before they graduate.
To date, nine companies have joined the Center, including American Modern Insurance Group, Inc., Cincinnati Bell Technology Solutions, Cintas, dunnhumbyUSA, Great American Insurance Company, The Kroger Company, LÛCRUM LLC, Procter and Gamble and SAS Institute, Inc.
The Center for Business Analytics will partner with other colleges across UC to serve as a research hub for applied analytic efforts.
One of the centers goals is to showcase the broad range of expertise in analytics at UC, and to foster creative multidisciplinary research among UC faculty across colleges and departments, Camm says. We have a group of world-renowned faculty, authors and researchers and outstanding programs in business analytics. The field is exploding, and we will use this Center to help educate and meet the growing needs of firms seeking talent in analytics.
Seminars, non-credit short courses and other educational endeavors will also be offered through the Center for Business Analytics.
