Dining-Out 2008

One of the largest events put together by the UC Air Force ROTC program is our annual Dining-Out. Months of planning and preparation on behalf of the cadet corps are put into this one night event that will be taking place this year on April 26th. With an expected 240 in attendance, the activities will all be held at the Kolping Center, a larger conference center north of Hamilton Avenue. Special guests at this year’s Dining-Out include Dr. Lou Trent and guest speaker Chief Master Sgt Jonathan Rosa.

The Dining-Out is laced with tradition, dating back to pre-Roman Empire days when winning battles would be celebrated with a big feast. Detachment 665’s Dining-Out is conducted in the same manor that the active service military practices. The evening begins at 5:00 pm with a social hour where guests are encouraged to attempt to greet everyone attending. The evening then transitions to the presentation of the colors, then into the traditional toasts. The night also includes a meal, cadet awards and senior recognition. The evening concludes with a few words from our guest speaker Chief Rosa and then the dance floor opens until 10:00 pm.

Preparing for Dining-Out is no easy feat. The event serves as essential training for underclassmen, which experience many important military traditions for the first time. Because of the significance of Dining-Out, attendance is mandatory for all cadets as a part of the AFROTC curriculum. Despite the attendance requirement, the evening always proves to be a pleasant one and cadets enjoy going. The cadet corps always looks toward Dining-Out with optimism and this year is no different.
