The Ohio First-Year Summit is a one day symposium that draws a wide range of people and groups interested in envisioning the future of the first-year experience in higher education even as we celebrate its current status and impact.    Participants can expect to:

  • Engage in timely and thought-provoking discussion with Ohio-based colleagues; 
  •  Interact with other Summit participants in ways that foster new strategic or collaborative linkages; and
  • Gain new information, insights, or tools.  

 

The Ohio First-Year Summit will feature concurrent sessions that identify challenges, share documented solutions and achievements, and facilitate shared visions for 21st century learning.  Summit presenters are faculty, higher education researchers, professional organization/system leaders and policy makers representing local or national as well as Ohio and nearby regional contexts, student affairs professionals, student leaders, and others involved with a wide range of courses, programs, and initiatives that forward access to higher education, college student learning outcomes, or degree completion.  Sessions will:  1) promote thought-provoking discussion or interaction amongst Summit participants structured in such as away as to  foster new strategic or collaborative linkages, 2)  provide participants with new information, insights, or tools.  Sessions will support the following Summit tracks:

-  Theoretical underpinnings and historical perspectives
-  Student learning and development contexts
-  Delivery models and  institutional approaches

-  Connections with college access, degree completion, and post-collegiate life
            
WHAT LIES AHEAD IN FIRST-YEAR EXPERIENCE?

-  Innovations in higher education curricula
-  Harnessing advancing technology and implications for transformational change
-  Economic contexts and higher education market trends
-  Higher education policy & governance implications at state, national, & local levels

Summit Location:

University of Cincinnati, Tangeman University Center

 

Check-in for the program, as well as a continental breakfast, will be held at 8:00 a.m. on the 4th Floor of the Tangeman University Center.  Included in your registration fee is continental breakfast, lunch, program materials. The program begins at 9:00 a.m. and ends at 4:00 p.m.

 To help the 7th Ohio Summit organizers offer the most dynamic program possible, please answer the following questions when registering to attend.   Comments offered here will not remain associated with individual respondents but rather will be combined and used collectively to help the organizers shape Summit-day conversations around themes of common interest to participants.
