Admission to University Honors: Transfer Students

Applications from students who are transferring to UC are accepted year-round. Transfer students must apply to the UHP during the same time that they are applying for admission to the university. Transfer students should apply to the UHP at least a full semester ahead.

Students must have a cumulative college GPA of 3.2 or above and have earned at least 24 hours of college credit in order to be considered for admission to the University Honors Program.

Admission is very competitive. Meeting the above listed minimum requirements is not a guarantee of admission to the University Honors Program.

The application process has four steps:

  1. Complete the online application for transfer students. In the online application, applicants are required to submit an essay in response to the following prompt:
    "The University Honors Program is committed to helping students maximize their education opportunities at UC while discovering and pursuing their passions. Please reflect on an interest or passion and share why it is significant. Then, explain how you have explored your interest / passion, how it has shaped you and how you might explore it further in the future."
  2. Submit a transcript of your work from your current college or university and any previous colleges or universities. Transcripts should be mailed to the University Honors Program at the address below. 
  3. Submit a resume with a listing of your co-curricular activities to
  4. letter of recommendation is required. It preferred that it come from a faculty member who has had you in class. The letter should be submitted to Neil Choudhury via mail, email or fax (please see our address and fax number below). It can be submitted directly to us by the faculty member.
