Roger Bacon and Lakota West Prove BEST in Robot Contest

Local high school teams met in an arena of robotic rivalry Nov. 1 at the University of Cincinnati. UC's College of Applied Science and College of Engineering hosted the competition as part of the nationwide program Boosting Engineering, Science and Technology (BEST).

Designed to promote technical careers among youths, the contest matched participating high school teams with mentors and corporate sponsors to plan and build a radio-controlled machine designed to accomplish a defined task. On Sept. 27, each team received an identical box of odd parts to build their robots – fasteners, materials, motors, a radio controller – and a detailed description of the final competition.
