Meet the University of Cincinnati's Presidential Fellows
It's easy to see that the College of Business has chosen two fine students to represent the University of Cincinnati in the Center Fellows Program (CFP).
Drew Jandes
"I am currently studying abroad in Europe for the Lindner Honors-PLUS program," says Jandes. "I was extremely ecstatic after being named a fellow. It is an absolute honor to represent the University of Cincinnati and the College of Business as a Presidential Fellow at this conference in Washington D.C. It will be fun to interact with other top students from the most prestigious schools around the nation. My goal is to show them that UC belongs right there with them."
Jandes spends much of his free time in activities that will benefit the university and the community.
"I am especially interested in making this campus and the entire community around campus the best it can possibly be," says Jandes. "The two main organizations that I am currently involved with are Project Safe Place and the Bearcat Advertising & Networking Group (BANG!)."
Jandes currently sits on the board of Project Safe Place, a group associated with Lighthouse Youth Services that reaches out to troubled kids throughout the Cincinnati region. If a young person has had trouble at home and is wandering the streets, he or she can find a sign at a local business with the Project Safe Place logo and get help. A driver will then be contacted, and sent immediately to pick up the troubled young person and bring him/her to the Lighthouse building to receive the proper care and attention.
"The entire program was not active when I arrived at the University of Cincinnati," Jandes says. "But with the help of three other honors-PLUS students, we brought the program back to the Cincinnati area in full stride. It took a great deal of time to re-contact all the businesses who were previously involved with the program, but we made it happen. The highlight of the programs return was putting on the first-ever 'Miles for Kids' walk on in the Cincinnati area last spring. We raised several thousand dollars for the Project Safe Place Program."
BANG! is the primary UC organization Jandes is currently involved in; he was recently named External President. The purpose of BANG! is to provide creative services for the University of Cincinnati and any affiliated student organizations with the intent of increasing advertising, planning and promotion for events on campus. BANG! aims to increase student involvement within the University of Cincinnati and enrich student life on campus.
"We were named the student group of the quarter for the spring last year ,so we are looking to build on that this year," says Jandes. "We are currently working on projects for Student Government, the new UCAlive website and the new centennial logo for CoB. I believe we will eventually be involved in almost every organization on campus."
Jandes' other interests include sports (especially Bearcat basketball), politics, and investments. He currently co-ops in the private equity group for Fort Washington Capital Partners, a subsidiary of the Western & Southern Life Insurance company. Oh yeah, he's also a student. His focus in CoB is finance.
"I am creating my own integral in the political science/law sector to help me prepare for the possibility of law school," says Jandes. Go get 'em Drew!
Brian Delany
Delany is also a Lindner Honors-Plus student in the College of Business.
"My focus is accounting/finance," says Delany. "My integral is customized: It is a synergy between political science and business."
Like Drew Jandes, Brian Delany also spent part of summer 2005 in Europe.
"I am especially interested in politics on a local and global perspective. Although I am a business student, I try to involve myself in as much politics as possible."
"I am president of the
," says Delany. "Most of my free time and responsibilities are spent with Sigma Chi."
Delany is also a candidate for Homecoming King. Go East, Young Bearcat!
We predict that we'll hear a lot more about both Drew Jandes and Brian Delany in the future.
