Scenes from UC s December Commencement Ceremony

More than 5,000 people attended UC’s December Commencement Ceremony in Fifth Third Arena at Shoemaker Center. Three local teachers, all UC alums, became part of the celebration when they were honored with UC’s Cincinnati USA Outstanding Educator Award – an honor from soon-to-graduate UC students who wanted to recognize the teacher who fueled student dreams of pursuing a higher education. Each of the awardees received a $1,000 UC scholarship to present to a student who is entering UC in the 2007-2008 academic year.

The ivy chain is a UC tradition since 1903. The ivy chain is carried by a group of outstanding undergraduate women – all adorned in white gowns – who lead the processional.

Ceremonial banners adorning the arena were contributed by Sigma Sigma, a men’s honorary founded in 1898 to promote the honor and glory of the University of Cincinnati.
