BusinessWeek Ranks UC in Top 100

For many years,

BusinessWeek

magazine has ranked MBA programs. Now they turn the spotlight on undergraduate programs for only the second year — and UC’s

College of Business made the cut

, coming in at 79 out of 93.

BusinessWeek

's ranking also placed the University of Cincinnati 43rd among the public universities.

The Methodology

In choosing which schools to rank, they asked colleges across the United States for information on such things as programs, enrollment, test scores and alumni starting salaries. They surveyed current students as well as corporate recruiters.

The students’ input carried the most weight of any other single category of measurement. And our students had some great things to say.

The Results

“The Lindner Honors-PLUS Business Program is what attracted me to the University of Cincinnati," wrote one student. "It's an outstanding program designed for highly motivated business students and gives them opportunities not seen in other universities, such as internship and co-op work experience, an international trip to learn about the global market with company visits, and a professional network in the business world. Graduating from this program will give me an advantage in the professional world.”

Many students also cited the international opportunities available through the UC College of Business.

“It has been an outstanding experience,” a student responded. “I feel UC has done an excellent job of combining classroom learning with real-world experience. By the time I graduate I will have studied abroad, interned abroad, had two years of co-op experience, and about 150 hours of community service.”

Respondents also mentioned the variety of programs available to suit students in different walks of life.

“The College of Business at the University of Cincinnati has done an outstanding job in creating different tiers of programs to meet the different needs of business students to accomplish their goals,” said one. “There is the Honors-Plus Program, for highly motivated individuals with superior academic ability and demonstrated leadership skills; the Business Scholars Program for outstanding business students, fueling their academic, professional, and personal success; the BBA-Extend Program for students holding an associate's degree in business administration or its equivalent; and other programs to meet the needs of all business students.”

"The UC College of Business has the good fortune to be located in a metropolitan area that has one of the highest concentrations of Fortune 500 companies in the country," says Nina Thomas, director of undergraduate programs for the College of Business. "This location provides our students with outstanding experiential learning opportunities — from our innovative Fast Track program that pairs small groups of freshmen with Cincinnati companies to our renowned co-op program, which places students in paid professional positions beginning in their sophomore year."

“The College of Business strategic plan is focused on achieving our vision of becoming a leading urban college of business, a highly valued partner for business expertise and a catalyst for growth and development,” says Dean Will McIntosh. “BusinessWeek’s recognition of our undergraduate programs is a clear indication that we are moving in the right direction.”

He continued, “this is just the beginning for us. I expect our success to continue and am convinced that as we execute our strategic plan, we will achieve our vision.”

"The college offers an array of outstanding study abroad options that focus on the business and economics practices of Asia, Latin American, Europe and Canada," Thomas adds. "Combining these experiential learning opportunities with our world-class faculty allows CoB students to learn state-of-the-art business theory and practice in the classroom and to apply this learning in their co-op positions. It is a winning combination for the students, the college and the companies."
