President Joseph Steger, Special Recognition

Dr. Joseph A. Steger steps down as president this month after 19 years of leadership at the University of Cincinnati. He was appointed UC president in July 1984. During his tenure, the university embarked on new construction under a Master Plan that has brought unprecedented change to the campus landscape.

The university also has changed in many other ways under President Steger’s leadership. From 1984 to 2002, UC’s research ranking rose from No. 78 in the United States to No. 46, while income from patents and licenses grew from zero to $6 million. Internet traffic went from nothing to 20 trillion bytes per month.
