The University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music (CCM) presents its annual Spring Dance Concert April 18-20 in UC’s Patricia Corbett Theater. This year’s featured performances include a unique collaboration between Dance Division students and CCM’s Chamber Choir and Chamber Players. The concert program also boasts two world premieres by dance faculty members. Tickets are on sale now.
CCM Dance Division Chair Jiang Qi presents an exciting new work that features the Ballet Ensemble accompanied by the CCM Chamber Players, performing the music of Bohuslav Martinu. This witty curtain-raiser portrays the daily lives of ballet students as they swagger their way through a lighthearted day of school.
In addition, faculty member Judith Mikita choreographs a new work set to a collection of Samuel Barber and Carol Barnett songs performed by the CCM Chamber Choir.
Also on the program is Michael Tevlin’s “And Ye Shall Be as Gods.” Created with a National Endowment for the Arts Choreography Fellowship, this piece depicts the story of Adam and Eve, danced to Igor Stravinsky’s Serenade in A Major
Lastly, faculty member Deirdre Carberry choreographs “Kitri’s Wedding” from the full-length ballet Don Quixote
(Act III), including the infamous bravura wedding Grand Pas de Deux
Next season, CCM Dance celebrates its 50th anniversary with a fully staged production of Adolph Adam’s masterwork Giselle
. The quintessential romantic ballet, Giselle
runs April 17-19, 2014, as a part of CCM’s 2013-14 Mainstage Series.Learn more about CCM’s 2013-14 Mainstage Series here.Performance Times
